Anadromous Now is a kick ass project put together by Corbie Fieldwalker with support from several individuals & organizations, including On The Fly Magazine. Check out this short video, the first installment in a series dedicated to the conservation and preservation of anadromous salmonids. Hunters and anglers have a saying that goes, "save the habitat, save the hunt". The incredible work highlighted in this short film drives that principle home, and it becomes glaringly apparent that with a little effort and forethought, we can make a BIG difference. Major props to all involved!
Did a little urban perch jerking and beltway 8 baby bassing last week. I am experimenting with some of the features on my Samsung Galaxy s9 and think the slow-motion footage of a release is pretty sweet. The little buck bass was caught on a Fabio Baitfish in chartreuse & white; the feisty green sunfish ate an olive Bastrop Bugger.
If you have a freezer full of fish, there comes a time when you want to get a little creative. You can only have it deep fried so many times before the pallet just gets bored. We scored a major meat haul on our recent trip to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, and are just about through our stash of flat fish. Here is one of the awesome ways my wife, Ashley Nguyen, cooked up our halibut. It will kick you right in the mouth, and you can make it as spicy (or not) as you want. For the record Ashley is Vietnamese, so we are blessed with heavy Asian influence in lots of our dishes; I love it. Although the Vietnamese do cook with curry, they use it differently than we will in this dish, which is heavily influenced by Thai cuisine.
A beautiful short film from another group I REALLY enjoy following, Project Upland. Stunning landscapes. As someone addicted to the beauty and serenity of fly fishing, this is a super easy transition. It doesn't really matter where you pursue it, or the exact species you are after. It is an obsession...
Beautiful video by the good people over at Yeti, featuring two incredible fisherman in an unbelievable landscape. Texas features some amazing fly fishing opportunities, this being one of them. And although I found this noted large and small mouth fishery more challenging than expected, the best part is it remains remote, unspoiled and totally available for us to fish again and again. Let's keep it that way.
