This was supposed to be a Devil's River Tune up. In a sense, I suppose it was. It's not my fault the spring breakers sapped up all the Texas State Parks availability this weekend. I pulled into Dripping Springs around 6 o'clock. Two Irish Car Bombs, a Guinness and one very stout whiskey drink later... I knew we weren't camping tonight.
Chris texts me at 5:30 the next morning, "Wakey, wakey." Oh Lord. This is happening. Yaks loaded, fly gear stashed and some munchies in the cooler we are on the road shortly thereafter. The plan was camping on Lake Georgetown, but we end up on a day trip at Rebecca Creek near its confluence with the Guadalupe.
As soon as we pulled up to the launch my blood was pumping. The place looked super fishy, and despite forecasted south winds the conditions remained calm. The fish didn't slam like I thought they might, but we did scrape out one decent striper on a Bastrop Crawler. They seemed to be hitting as the Crawlers made descent to the bottom..even picking some up off the bottom.
All in all a great day.
